EDEXCEL

Extended Certificate/Extended Diploma
For anyone who sees their future career in Science the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science is an excellent starting point.  It covers a wide range of topics across biology, chemistry and physics and will allow you to acquire a high level of practical laboratory skills from which the theory is then drawn. The Extended certificate is an excellent opportunity to study science at level 3 and to combine subjects they are passionate about.

This BTEC course is very practical with plenty of opportunities to implement the theory that you learn.  Most assessment is by course-work but some units have external assessments.  You will have a very clear understanding of your progress throughout the course, to help you plan and achieve your next steps.

Taught by subject specialists, with laboratory experience, you will learn by completing laboratory-based practical assignments, supported self-study assignments, presentations and discussions that are based on real workplace situations, activities and demands. The course covers a wide range of science subjects and includes industrial applications.

Why choose this?
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress onto higher education programmes at other institutions or employment. Past students have gone on to study biomedical science, pharmacy, radiography, radiotherapy, nursing, podiatry, biological sciences, audiology, optometry, forensic science, marine biology, human biology, psychology, criminology, computer science, chemical engineering.

BTEC Applied science is a really interesting course, I love the fact you can study all three science disciplines (biology, chemistry and physics) all in one course. The practical work makes things interesting and you get plenty of opportunities to improve your skills. You are taught by a range of teachers who teach within their specialisms which makes it more interesting. Studying BTEC has been a revelation and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
